Huey Long Pierce, Louisiana governor and United States senator, was born 30 August 1893, near Winnfield, Winn Parish, Louisiana, and died 10 September 1935. Gillis W. Long of Rapides Parish, La., served seven terms in the U.S. House of Representative from the Louisiana 8th Congressional District (1963-65, 1973-1985). He was a member of the Long family, a prominent political family of Louisiana. Huey Pierce Long, Russell B. Long, George Shannon Long, Speedy O. Long, and Earl K. Long were among his cousins.
